Kevin oversees all programs, administration/management, services
and initiatives of
the privately funded Greater Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation. A Kansas City native,
Kevin graduated from Rockhurst High School. He played basketball while
earning a degree in Communications and Journalism at Benedictine
College in Atchison, Kansas. Kevin's sports career began in 1982
when he worked as a sportscaster and Sports Director for KFRU Radio
in Columbia, Missouri. Following that, Kevin joined Learfield (Sports) Communications,
Inc., in Jefferson City, Missouri, as Director of Marketing and
Programming, where he helped coordinate sports radio programming
and advertising for Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State.
Kevin later joined the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club in 1985
as the Assistant Director of Marketing and Broadcasting and then
became the first paid associate of the Kansas City Sports Commission
amd Foundation. In 1989, Kevin became Executive Director and was promoted
to President in 1997.
The organization now has a team of ten associates and is headquartered in the McGuff Sports Center at 1308 Pennsylvania on Quality Hill.
Accomplishments include: played a key community role by working to retain the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals in Kansas City for 25 years; led the planning initiative for the Sprint Center; strongly supported and lobbied for the development of the Kansas Speedway; helped lead efforts for improvements at historic Municipal Auditorium; worked to create and facilitate the vision for the NABC’s National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame; worked to retain the FCA in Kansas City; spearheaded efforts to create the Women’s Intersport Network (WIN for KC) and the SportKC online event registration initiative and helped introduce private arena management into the market-place. Kevin and his wife Katy
have four daughters - Lindsay, Caroline, Peepers and Gillen.
